Preparation before your health screening

Please follow the instructions based on your health screening plan:

Blood Test
  • Fasting (no food or drinks) is required for blood glucose and lipid tests. Please fast for at least 8 hours before the appointment (Moderate water intake is allowed).
Stool Test
  • Bring along a stool sample to Tamarind Specialists Centre.
  • Sample bottles may be obtained in advance from Tamarind Specialists Centre (Central).
  • If collected the night before, keep the bottle tightly sealed and refrigerated at 4°C.
  • Do not collect stool during menstruation.
Pap Smear / HPV DNA Test
  • Should be done at least 4 days after the last day of menstruation.
CT Scan
  • Please inform our staff if there is any chance of pregnancy before the examination.
  • Please remove all metal items including jewellery, dentures and hairpins as they may affect CT scan images.
  • For contrast CT scan, no need for fasting before the scan. Please inform our staff if you have diabetes meillitus, renal failure or other allergies. If you have diabetes meillitus or renal failure, doctor will advise further details on needed preparations. If you have a history of allergy to contrast media, you may have steroid cover prescribed by doctor before the appointment day.
  • For Coronary Angiogram, do not consume alcohol, tea, soft drinks, chocolate, coffee or any caffeinated products 24 hours before the exam, and avoid exercise or cigarettes. Viagra or similar drugs should be avoided for 12 hours before the exam. If your heart rate is too high, oral or intravenous beta-blocker drug maybe given to lower heart rate to a desired level before the exam (additional charge applies).
MRI
  • MRI is safe and there are no known hazards. However, if you have the implant that may potentially interfere with the MRI exam (such as cardiac pacemakers, cerebral aneurysm clips, prosthetic heart valves, orthopaedic prosthesis, surgical clips, etc.), please inform our staff before exam.
  • Please inform our staff if there is any chance of pregnancy before the examination.
  • Avoid wearing make-up on the day of exam.
  • For those having abdominal scan, fast for at least 4 hours before the exam. For others, there is no need to fast before the exam unless instructed otherwise.
  • No need to stop medications.
Ultrasound Scan
  • For ultrasound of upper abdomen/ whole abdomen / Pelvis / Prostate, drink about 2-3 cups (250ml each) of water 30 minutes before the exam time and keep a full urinary bladder, fast for 6 hours (except water) before the exam time.
  • For breast ultrasound, do not apply perfume, deodorant, or talcum powder before the exam. No other special preparation is required.
Mammogram
  • Please inform our staff if there is any chance of pregnancy before the examination.
  • Do not apply perfume, deodorant, or talcum powder before the exam.
  • It is recommended to have the mammogram 7 days after the last day of menstruation to minimize breast discomfort during the exam.
